Kelly Hockey’s iPad 3 Review

Read Kelly Hockey’s great review of the iPad3.

I was so excited to receive confirmation that I had been one of the extremely lucky ones to review and test the iPad 3, altho I didn’t think it would arrive due to not believing that this could be real.

Then to receive a knock at the door at 8am 7 days ago with a very wet post man holding a package for me, then excitement over come me and I realised it wasn’t a hoax it is 100% real.

So after like a little excited child at Christmas I set upon to open this package to find a brand spanking new iPad 3, which was fully charged thankfully as I just wanted to play with this new toy

It feels a bit daunting when you first turn it on to set it up but it was so easy to do and took a matter of a few minutes and away I went.

The wifi speed is amazing I was expecting it to be a little slow but it was the complete opposite I was very impressed with this.

The screen resolution on the ipad3 is superb and defiantly is a good point to this device.

It feels heavy for how small it is but you soon get used to the weight and you don’t realise after a few days of using it, it is a little on the strange side to hold but once I got a leather case it made it feel easier to hold!

The sensitivity on the screen is amazing I thought I’d have trouble with it but it is very responsive with no delay

You also have the option to either use your existing apple account (if you have one) or setting up a new apple account is simple and easy to do.

Once you are up and running there are a lot of excellent apps to down load which if you are already an apple user you will know the free apps altho on the iPads the free apps do not show up all the time but they are there, they are also there to buy which isn’t expensive and buying them allowed you to have full use of the app and not a demo like app with the free ones.

It is quick easy and simple to down load the apps, I had down loaded lots more with in a short space of time these added to the ones.

With a device like this I was expecting the battery life to be shockingly short lived but I was truly knocked back at how well the battery lasts, the only down fall I have with the battery is how long it takes to charge!

One thing I am really impressed with is you can swipe the screen and it takes you through what other pages/apps you’ve been on, this is a really good idea because there is nothing worse than being in one app weather it be social network or games ect and one swift swipe of the screen and it takes you to another page, a bit like a book!

The text is superb and the picture and video quality are totally amazing, so sharp and crisp something you wouldn’t expect from such a small device but it’s truly amazing I am totally blown away by it.

Id personally like to thank product testing for giving me the chance and opportunity to review and own the latest gadget out on the market, I’d also like to tell people not to give up it is real and not a hoax! This is a brilliant piece of machine if you don’t already own one get out there and get one!

Oliver Powell’s iPad 3 Review

Read Oliver Powell’s great review of the iPad3

• Subject: iPad review

Packaging

Inspiring packaging to be expected from those clever designers at Apple!

The experience that Apple create from sliding the lid off the box gave me that excited feeling that I was opening something special!

Set up

Without shadow of a doubt the setup of an iPad 3 is like a stroll in the park. I’m not the most technical and haven’t got the patience for long winded setups but with a total setup time of 5 mins 17 secs I was impressed. By the end of this time my iPad was connected to my wifi, the device had been registered and I was receiving email.

Intro email

The welcome Email from my new friends at Apple was excellent. I was guided into the app store and towards app starter packages which contained many free apps as well as a number of Apple’s apps some of which I bought including iPhoto.

Apps

The thing about the iPad, or any tablet that is, is that without downloading decent apps it just becomes a tool for Internet and email only! Obvious comment I know but finding and using the right apps for you is key and with the app store you both have as many apps as you could imagine plus good tools to inspire you to find apps you hadn’t even dreamed of using or needing!!

Dictation

I thought the best thing to do would be to trial dictation was doing the review. And here’s the results.

‘He did she came in from the main keyboard…Easily accessible found that you can follow hands are performing well that’s a fair lots of good.

So the first paragraph of works very nicely with no spelling mistakes and the sentiments exactly as I would want to start the second paragraph however doesn’t make sense.’

Back to typing.

In conclusion, the dictation does work, just not very well. I find that by the time I have edited text manually on the keyboard it would have been quicker to have typed it in the first place. And like many other words above, ‘sentiments’ was not dictated!!

Maybe this is something that would improve as I got better at adapting my speech to what the iPad wanted. But frankly I haven’t got time for that!

Charging

OMG!!!

This review would have been completed 2 days ago if it wasn’t for the fact that if you don’t plug an Apple iPad lead into the device it won’t charge! I have numerous chargers around the house as the family own 4 iPods, 2 iPhones and now 2 iPads but I ended up twice plugging my fully depleted iPad 3 into chargers that work for the other devices but not the 3 and so was without my new toy for 48 hours! I also plugged it into my laptop And whilst it synced perfectly could I get it to charge? No! And that was despite trying 3 different apple connectors including the original iPad 3 connector. My iPhone of course charges with all 3 connectors!!

Ipad2 vs 3

My wife has an IPad2 which she adores. So is the 3 worth those extra £200?

The 2 main downsides of the 3 are of course 1) the price but 2) the length of time it takes to charge. The 3 seems to deplete at a similar speed to the 2 but takes a whopping 5 hours to fully recharge – see charging above and you can see the issues with this.

The BIG plus is the screen: wow! The images are just amazing! Photos are so clear it feels like a real privilege viewing images and for this reason alone I give the 3 a huge thumbs up.

If however you haven’t got £200 to throw away stick with the 2…
